Consular legalisation for Syria

LEGALISATION AND APOSTILLE REQUIREMENTS

There is no Syrian diplomatic mission in the UK; the nearest authority for legalising UK documents is the Syrian Embassy in Paris. Personal documents for use in Syria can only be legalised with an Apostille from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). For commercial documents, legalisation requires both the FCDO Apostille and attestation by the London and Arab-British Chambers of Commerce.

TIME AND FEES

The FCDO charges £40 for standard Apostille service, £100 for premium, and £35 for e-Apostille. The fee for attestation by the London and Arab-British Chambers of Commerce is £58.50 per commercial document. Standard Apostille service takes about 1–2 working days, premium service 5–6 hours, and e-Apostille 5–48 hours. The Chambers of Commerce typically process documents in around 5 working days. For the standard next-day Apostille, original documents must arrive by 11:00 am. Premium Apostille service is limited to certain documents and requires proof of urgency. Documents for e-Apostille must be notarised with an Advanced or Qualified Electronic Signature. When using the Chambers of Commerce, two photocopies of each document are needed at submission.
