Consular legalisation for Sierra Leone

Notarisation of documents for Sierra Leone

LEGALISATION AND APOSTILLE REQUIREMENTS

For documents to be used in Sierra Leone, legalisation is generally not required if they have been signed or authenticated by a UK notary public, as outlined in the Sierra Leone Proof of Documents Act 1961 and the High Court Rules 2007. However, if legalisation is needed, the document must first be Apostilled by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) before submission to the Sierra Leone Consulate. A photocopy of the document is required with your application.

TIME AND FEES

The FCDO Apostille fee is £40 for standard service, £100 for premium service, or £35 for e-Apostille. The consular fee for legalisation is £200 per document, with processing typically taking 3–5 working days. Payment is accepted by bank transfer only. Submissions are accepted from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm (submission) and 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm (collection), Monday to Friday
