Consular legalisation for Nepal
Notarisation of documents for Nepal
LEGALISATION AND APOSTILLE REQUIREMENTS
For documents to be used in Nepal, the process depends on the nationality and origin of the document. Documents related to Nepalese citizens must first be legalised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nepal, then submitted to the Nepalese Consulate in London for further attestation. Only documents concerning Nepalese citizens are eligible for legalisation at the Consulate in London. For documents related to British nationals or UK-incorporated companies, a UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) Apostille is generally sufficient for submission to local authorities in Nepal. When submitting documents to the Consulate, a Nepalese translation must be bound together with the English version, and a photocopy of the document, a copy of the applicant’s passport ID page, recent visa, and a cover letter requesting legalisation are required1.
TIME AND FEES
The FCDO Apostille fee is £40 for standard service, £100 for premium service, or £35 for e-Apostille. The Nepalese Consulate charges £40 for personal documents (such as birth, marriage, death certificates, and academic documents) and £75 per banking or financial document. Standard consular processing time is typically 1–2 working days. Payment at the Consulate is accepted by cash or postal order only. Submissions can be made from 9:15 am to 4:15 pm, Monday to Friday, with collection available from 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm
