Consular legalisation for Kenya

Notarisation of documents for Kenya

LEGALISATION AND APOSTILLE REQUIREMENTS

For most documents to be used in Kenya, legalisation with an Apostille from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) is required, followed by further attestation at the Kenyan Consulate. However, court documents, statutory declarations, and powers of attorney generally do not need legalisation if they have been signed or authenticated by a UK notary public, in accordance with the Kenyan Evidence Act. When submitting documents, a photocopy, an application letter explaining the need for legalisation (signed and dated by the applicant), and a copy of the applicant’s passport (ID page) are required. All submissions and returns are handled via postal service only.

TIME AND FEES

The consular fee is £5 per document, plus a postal order fee ranging from £5 to £12.50 depending on the payment amount. Processing typically takes 5 to 10 working days. Payment can be made by debit card or postal order for postal applications. The Consulate’s opening hours are 9:30 am to 12:00 noon, Monday to Friday.
