Consular legalisation for United Arab Emirates – UAE
LEGALISATION AND APOSTILLE REQUIREMENTS
To use documents in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), they must first be legalised with an Apostille from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), then submitted to the UAE Consulate for further attestation. Each document must be certified and Apostilled individually; bundling is not permitted, except for a Certificate of Incorporation and its Change of Name certificate for the same company. For commercial documents like certificates of origin or invoices, attestation by the London and Arab-British Chambers of Commerce is required before submission to the Consulate. The UAE Consulate in London also accepts documents from Iceland, Crown Dependencies (Jersey, Guernsey, Isle of Man), and British Overseas Territories, provided they have been Apostilled in the place of origin before submission. Foreign educational documents are not accepted. Documents for non-profit organisations must be pre-approved by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs before submission.
From 24 February 2025, the UAE has introduced a digital attestation process, and once completed, a digitally attested copy will be sent via email and can be verified online.
TIME AND FEES
The consular fee is £70 for private documents and £500 for commercial documents, plus a VFS admin fee of £25 per application (covering up to five documents for the same individual, family, or company). For commercial documents requiring Chamber attestation, the total fee is £538.50 per document, including LCCI and ABCC fees. Payment is online only. The estimated processing time is 7–10 working days, but may be longer if further checks are needed or during busy periods such as Ramadan and Eid. The Consulate is open from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, and the VFS Legalisation Centre operates from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday.
