Consular legalisation for Taiwan (Taipei)
Notarisation of documents for Taiwan (Taipei)
LEGALISATION AND APOSTILLE REQUIREMENTS
To use a document in Taiwan, it must first be legalised with an Apostille from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), then submitted to the Taipei Representative Office in London for further attestation. Only paper-based Apostilles are accepted. A photocopy of the document is required when submitting to the Consulate, along with completed application and authorisation forms, passport copies for both the applicant and agent, and a company Certificate of Incorporation if relevant. The applicant’s signature on the authorisation letter must be certified by a practising solicitor or notary public, including an expiry date. For personal documents like educational certificates, the notary must confirm the authenticity with the awarding body. Some documents, such as UK birth, marriage, and death certificates, must be Apostilled directly by the FCDO without notarial certification. If submitting a certified copy, the notary or solicitor must verify the document’s authenticity with the issuing authority and confirm this in their statement. The Taipei Representative Office in London handles documents from the British Overseas Territories, Crown Dependencies (except Isle of Man), Ghana, Seychelles, and Sierra Leone. Documents linked to areas north of Durham, including Cumbria, Scotland, and the Isle of Man, must be sent to the Taipei Representative Office in Edinburgh. No appointment is required for personal submissions via a UK agent.
TIME AND FEES
The consular fee is £12 per document for standard service or £18 per document for express service. Currently, the standard service is suspended, so only express service is available, with processing typically taking 5–7 working days. Payment should be made by postal order or company cheque payable to the T.R.O. in the UK. The Consulate is open for submissions from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, Monday to Friday.
