Consular legalisation for Oman

Notarisation of documents for Oman

LEGALISATION AND APOSTILLE REQUIREMENTS

Oman is a member of the 1961 Hague Convention, so a UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) Apostille is generally sufficient for documents to be used in Oman. For UK educational documents, the Cultural Attaché at the Embassy of Oman still offers attestation services, and document holders should contact the Cultural Attaché directly for this process.

For commercial documents, there are two legalisation options:

  • Documents can be legalised by the Consulate of Oman via the Arab British Chamber of Commerce (ABCC). In this case, the document must not be Apostilled by the FCDO but should be certified by a notary public and then submitted directly to the ABCC. The ABCC requires an Undertaking Form completed and signed by a company director, along with a copy of their passport.
  • Alternatively, commercial documents can be legalised by FCDO Apostille only. Once a document is Apostilled by the FCDO, the Consulate of Oman cannot provide any further legalisation.
